KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli has called on police to urgently apprehend those responsible for the killing of eThekwini Metro Municipality Councillor Sibusiso Khwela.
Premier Ntuli visited the Khwela family to convey his condolences following the councillor’s brutal murder at his office, where he was allegedly gunned down in front of members of the community he served.
Speaking during the visit, Premier Ntuli described the killing as a disturbing incident that has left the community and the province deeply shaken.
The Premier urged law enforcement agencies to use all available resources to ensure that the suspect is arrested and brought before the courts.
“We call upon the police to do everything in their power to apprehend the suspect responsible for this horrific killing,” Premier Ntuli said.
The murder has raised concerns about the safety of public representatives, particularly as the country heads towards the 4 November Local Government Elections.
Khwela’s death has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents mourning a councillor who was killed while carrying out his public responsibilities.
Premier Ntuli said the government stands with the Khwela family during this difficult period and stressed the importance of allowing the justice system to take its course.
