Two women were injured after they were struck by a vehicle during a collision involving two cars on Todd Street in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal, on Tuesday morning.
The incident happened at approximately 06:20, when members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were flagged down by members of the public requesting assistance.
Officers arrived at the scene and found two damaged vehicles and the two injured pedestrians.
According to the driver of a white Toyota Tazz, he was travelling towards the Verulam CBD when he attempted to overtake a white Volkswagen Polo Vivo.
The Toyota Tazz collided with the front-right side of the Volkswagen Polo Vivo before veering onto the pavement, where it struck the two women.
One of the pedestrians sustained injuries to her leg and head, as well as suspected internal injuries. The second woman suffered injuries to her leg.
Paramedics treated both pedestrians at the scene before transporting them to hospital for further medical attention.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation. Authorities are expected to establish what led to the driver losing control of the Toyota Tazz and striking the pedestrians.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution and remain alert, particularly around busy pedestrian areas.
