The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has removed Secretary-General Sibonelo Nomvalo from his role due to concerns about internal divisions, lack of accountability and poor communication within the party’s leadership.

The Office of the President announced this decision on Thursday. It follows worries about how councillors were selected, people receiving two salaries, late campaign materials and shifts in the parliamentary group and staff.

The party stated that some parliamentary changes were not told to party president Jacob Zuma, national leaders and the Presidency Collective. Leaders also worried about high-level committees being set up without telling the right party groups.

The party said these problems raised questions about how well the organization worked together, who was responsible and whether the party followed its own rules.

Lindiwe Mtshali is now acting secretary-general, and national spokesperson Sifiso Mahlangu will take on extra duties in the deputy secretary-general’s office.

Mtshali will work with national chairperson Mxolisi Phakathi to manage the party’s business and organizational work.

The party said these changes would help improve teamwork, bring back responsibility and keep things running smoothly.

While the party recognized Nomvalo’s work, it asked him to help make the change go well. The announcement did not say when the problems started.

The changes began on Thursday, following the party’s constitution and internal rules.
