A heavy police presence has been deployed across Durban’s CBD as the 46th Ordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government gets under way at the Durban ICC.
The summit is taking place from 16 to 17 August 2026, bringing regional leaders together for high-level discussions on issues affecting the Southern African Development Community.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is chairing the summit and is set to assume the SADC chairpersonship for the 2026/2027 term.
Security has been significantly heightened across the city, with police deployed at key locations and along routes linked to the summit as Durban hosts the regional gathering.
