The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced a safety recall of 40 Audi e-tron GT vehicles sold across South Africa, citing a potential braking defect that could pose serious safety risks. According to the NCC, Audi South Africa confirmed that the affected vehicles were sold between 2 November 2021 and 20 March 2026.
The issue relates to a bolted connection between the brake pedal input rod and the brake servo operating rod, which may loosen over time. If the connection becomes fully detached, drivers may lose normal braking capability and be forced to rely solely on the vehicle’s emergency braking system — significantly increasing the risk of accidents.
Consumers who own the affected vehicles are strongly advised to immediately book their cars in for inspection and repairs at authorised Audi dealerships. The NCC emphasised that all repairs will be conducted free of charge.
Vehicle owners seeking further clarity can contact the commission via email at ProductRecall@thencc.org.za. The NCC has urged motorists not to ignore the recall, stressing that prompt action is essential to ensure driver and passenger safety on South African roads.
