A Umzimkhulu serial rapist will spend the rest of his life behind bars after the Regional Court handed down six life sentences for a series of brutal attacks on women.
Tenes Hassan, 33, was sentenced on 30 September 2026 after being convicted of raping six women in Umzimkhulu between January and December 2022.
According to police, Hassan targeted women who were alone or with their children, breaking into their homes during the early hours of the morning.
He demanded cellphones and money before attacking his victims, with most of the incidents taking place between 2am and 3am.
Investigators from the Kokstad Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit eventually linked Hassan to the cases through DNA evidence. He was also sentenced to an additional eight years for housebreaking and will be placed on the National Register for Sexual Offenders.
In a separate case, a 45-year-old man received a life sentence for raping his five-year-old niece in Gowan Lea in December 2025.
The court also sentenced a 19-year-old woman to 20 years in prison for raping her nine-year-old neighbour in Ibisi.
Police welcomed the sentences, saying all the convicted offenders will be registered as sexual offenders.
