The National Freedom Party (NFP) in KwaZulu-Natal has been thrown into turmoil following the conviction of Community Development Minister Mbali Shinga, who previously served as the party’s provincial chairperson.
Shinga was found guilty of defying an executive council directive after voting in support of a motion of no confidence against KZN Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli.
Her actions have sparked political tension within the party and raised questions about internal discipline and unity. The conviction is being seen as a strong message from provincial leadership on the importance of adhering to collective decisions.
Political analysts say the fallout could weaken the NFP’s standing in the province. The party has yet to confirm what action will be taken against Shinga moving forward.
