KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, led a critical crime-fighting imbizo at Sibusisiwe Community Hall in Mandeni, iLembe District, following a recent surge in violent gun crime in the area.
The visit comes after the tragic killing of a local high school pupil and the shooting of 52-year-old Bonginkosi Makhoba and Thembani Ngiba at their home in Nembe.
Premier Ntuli also visited the Makhoba family to offer condolences and support following the devastating loss.“We cannot allow our communities to live in fear of criminals. We must work together to restore safety and protect our people,” said Ntuli.
The Premier called on law-enforcement agencies, traditional leaders, community structures and residents to strengthen cooperation in the fight against crime.
Community members used the imbizo to raise concerns about violent crime and called for stronger police visibility and quicker action against those responsible for killings in the area.
