A prominent founding member of the MK Party in KwaMashu, north of Durban, has been shot dead in an incident that has sent shockwaves through the local community.
Douglas “Mfene” Thusini was fatally shot outside his home in KwaMashu K Section on Saturday shortly after returning from Ntuzuma township. According to information available at this stage, Thusini had reportedly participated in an operation involving the eviction of Somali shop owners as part of ongoing anti-illegal immigration protests.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, and the motive for the killing has not yet been established. No arrests have been reported.
Thusini was widely known in KwaMashu as one of the founding members of the MK Party in the area and had been actively involved in community mobilisation.
In recent months, he had also been vocal in campaigns against illegal immigration, making him a well-known figure in local protests.
Police are expected to launch a full investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting and whether the incident was linked to his public activities or another motive.
The MK Party has not yet issued an official statement on Thusini’s death.
Authorities have appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward and report it to the nearest police station. The investigation is continuing.
