Authorities in the Eastern Cape are offering a R50,000 reward for any information that could assist in
identifying and apprehending the suspects involved in the rape of five schoolchildren in Khonqeni in
2024. As reported by the South African Police Service, the alleged crime occurred while the children were
attending school in Khonqeni, located near Bityi.
This incident has ignited significant outrage and concern within the community, prompting residents to demand immediate justice and enhanced measures to safeguard children in educational settings.
According to police representatives, the investigation is ongoing, and officers are pursuing multiple
leads. Nonetheless, they emphasize that public information could play a vital role in finding the
suspects and ensuring they face justice in court.
Authorities are calling on anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or possesses relevant
information to step forward. The police assure that tips can be submitted anonymously, and the
identities of informants will be kept confidential. Community leaders and child-protection organizations have also urged residents to assist investigators, highlighting that the safety of children is a collective duty.
They believe that the reward will motivate individuals with knowledge about the crime to come forward.
