AmaZulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has once again dismissed his Traditional Prime Minister, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, and appointed his deputy, Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza, as his successor.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the King’s spokesperson, Mpikayise Buthelezi, confirmed that Reverend Buthelezi’s appointment had been terminated with immediate effect.
According to the statement, the decision was made in terms of Clause 7 of the Appointment and Mandate concluded on 2 December 2025, which grants the King the sole authority to terminate the appointment by written notice.
“Reverend Buthelezi has accordingly been released from all duties, responsibilities and authority associated with the Office of the Traditional Prime Minister,” the statement said.
King Misuzulu thanked Reverend Buthelezi for his service during his tenure and wished him well in his future endeavours.
The King also expressed full confidence in Inkosi Chiliza’s leadership, wisdom and commitment to the Zulu Throne, urging members of the Royal House, amakhosi, izinduna, traditional structures and the Zulu Nation to support the newly appointed Traditional Prime Minister.
The statement further directed that, with immediate effect, all official correspondence, engagements and matters relating to the Office of the Traditional Prime Minister be addressed to Inkosi Chiliza.
Reverend Buthelezi, a senior IFP leader and KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, was first appointed Traditional Prime Minister in early 2024. He was removed from the position in December that year before later being reappointed.
