DURBAN – Wandile Nsibande, Sphelele “Magolide” Shinga and Malizo Dzanibe appeared at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 12 October, after being arrested on Saturday, 10 October, on Moore Road.

The trio were arrested while walking on Moore Road. Hours before his arrest, Nsibande had posted videos online calling for help to find ten girls he alleged were kidnapped by foreign nationals.

In court, Nsibande testified that he was never formally arrested but entered the police van voluntarily to protect Shinga, whom he felt was unsafe.

“The police took us to the bush,” Nsibande told the court. He said they feared for their lives as they believed they were being targeted.

He further alleged that he was shot three times with a stun gun on his private parts and remains in pain. He claimed police refused to assist him during the day and he only received medical attention hours later on Saturday night.

Shinga and Dzanibe were granted R1,000 bail each, paid by Jacinta Mangobese Zuma of March and March.

Nsibande, the first accused, was denied bail after the State cited a 2009 conviction for robbery and kidnapping and that he is currently out on parole.

He pleaded not to be transferred to Westville, citing safety threats. The court granted the plea. He will remain at the Durban CBD police station waiting for his bail trail until Friday, 16 October at 08:30.
