DURBAN – eThekwini Municipality has achieved a major milestone in its water recovery drive, reducing active water leaks by 70% in just three months.
The Municipality’s water operations teams have repaired over 9,000 leaks, bringing active faults down from 13,000 in July to 3,900.
This intervention has resulted in non-revenue water losses dropping from 58% to 55%, with the City targeting below 50% by year-end.
The turnaround follows intensive inspection and repair drives across key communities, aimed at restoring ageing infrastructure, curbing wastage and improving supply reliability.
The City thanked residents for reporting leaks and urged continued vigilance against vandalism and illegal connections which contribute to losses.
Residents can report leaks via the eThekwini Municipality App, WhatsApp on 073 1483 477, toll-free on 080 311 1111 or email Eservices@durban.gov.za.
