KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Mntomuhle Khawula says government is using sport as a tool to tackle social ills and keep young people engaged in positive activities.
Khawula was speaking in Lakeside, Vryheid, where he handed over a new Combo Court and Outdoor Gym to the community.
The facilities are located within the community and are surrounded by two schools, making them easily accessible to learners and residents.
Khawula said he hoped the facilities would be fully utilised by the community and contribute to healthier lifestyles and greater youth participation in sport.
He was joined at the Lakeside Community Hall in Ward 22 by Abaqulusi Mayor Councillor Sifiso Eric Mkhwanazi, councillors and other local leaders.
