DURBAN – The March and March movement has announced that it has suspended its working relationship with activist Ngizwe Mchunu while an internal investigation into recent incidents and public statements is underway.
In a statement released on Monday, the organisation, led by Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, said the decision was taken to protect the movement’s reputation as investigations continue.
March and March and Mchunu have previously worked together during campaigns and marches calling for stronger action against undocumented foreign nationals in South Africa. The pair were prominent during demonstrations in Durban and Johannesburg, where they advocated for stricter immigration enforcement.
The organisation said it had also uncovered allegations that certain politicians and business groups were attempting to divide its members and influence the movement for their own interests. It further alleged that there were claims of benefits being offered or accepted to undermine the organisation.
As a result, March and March said it would no longer work with Mchunu until the investigation has been concluded.
