Durban is preparing for a major economic and tourism boost as Africa’s Travel Indaba 2026 gears up to open from 11 to 14 May at the Durban International Convention Centre.
The prestigious event will be officially opened by President Cyril Ramaphosa, marking a significant moment for the continent’s tourism sector.
Announcing the event, Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille that tourism remains a powerful economic driver capable of delivering immediate and inclusive growth across South Africa.Hosted in the coastal city of Durban, the Indaba is expected to draw global buyers, exhibitors and industry leaders, positioning KwaZulu-Natal as a key destination on the international stage.
The event also aims to strengthen continental trade ties by leveraging opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area. EThekwini Mayor Vusumuzi Xaba has committed the city to delivering a world-class experience, with a focus on safety, hospitality and infrastructure readiness.
Under the theme “Unlimited Africa: Growing Africa’s Tourism Economy,” the 2026 Indaba is expected to unlock new partnerships and elevate Africa’s global tourism footprint.
