Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba “TV” Mngqithi has opened up about his sudden departure from Tanzanian giants Young Africans (Yanga), suggesting that differences over discipline and tactical expectations may have contributed to his difficult spell at the club.
Speaking on Metro FM’s Sports Night Amplified with Andile Ncube on Tuesday, Mngqithi reportedly raised concerns about the professional standards he expected from players and the challenges he encountered during his time in Tanzania.
At the centre of the reported disagreements was the role of attacking midfielder Stephane Aziz Ki, the Burkina Faso international who was reportedly unhappy with the position and responsibilities assigned to him.
Mngqithi’s tactical philosophy demands more than creativity in the final third. He expects attacking midfielders to press opponents, contribute defensively and remain involved throughout matches.
For the experienced coach, every player has responsibilities beyond what happens when their team is in possession.
However, his concerns reportedly extended beyond tactics. Mngqithi also suggested that missing training sessions without consistent disciplinary consequences was an issue at Yanga.
For a coach who values commitment, punctuality and accountability, the situation appears to have raised questions about whether his expectations aligned with the club’s working culture.
Meanwhile, speculation linking Mngqithi with Kaizer Chiefs continues, but he has not publicly committed to a new destination.
After years of travelling across the continent during his coaching career, including his time at Sundowns, Mngqithi’s immediate priority is reportedly spending Christmas with his family.
His next career move may have to wait as he takes time to reconnect with loved ones away from the demands of professional football.
