Khuzani and Mthandeni Set Durban Alight at Makoya Imbizo

In a rare occasion, Maskandi music’s biggest rivals shared the stage on Saturday at Smirnoff 1818’s Makoya Imbizo, held at Berea Rovers in Durban. Khuzani Mpungose, popularly known as Indlamlenze, and Mthandeni Manqele, better known as Igcokama Elisha, thrilled thousands of fans as they took turns performing their hit songs.Fresh from performing at Bafana Bafana’s FIFA World Cup send-off event on Friday, Igcokama Elisha had the crowd on its feet the moment he stepped onto the stage with his dancers.

Both artists delivered a string of popular sing-along hits, once again proving the strength of their fan bases across the country.The duo also entertained fans with playful jabs at one another before launching into their next songs. Their long-running rivalry has become one of the driving forces behind Maskandi music’s growing popularity and success.DJ Cindo, who never disappoints, said it was important for the event to celebrate a genre that has helped preserve the heritage and traditions of many black communities.

Attendees applauded Diageo South Africa for assembling a star-studded line-up featuring DJ Cindo, Big Zulu, and Lwah Ndlunkulu, among other performers who dazzled the sizeable crowd.Ukhozi FM presenters, including Khetha Gwala, crossed live from the venue, adding to the excitement.

Also spotted among the attendees were Gagasi FM Content Manager Ayanda Melansi, Amalanga Awafani actress Sithandwa Nzuza, and Ukhozi FM Programmes Manager Lango Cele.
