The Nkandla May Traditional Horse Racing event brought excitement, entertainment and business opportunities to the KwaNontshiza Area in Ward 5 on Saturday.
The event was attended by KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Mntomuhle Khawula, and hosted by Nkandla Local Municipality in partnership with the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.Crowds gathered to watch 10 horse races featuring different racing grades, with winners competing for major prizes. The event also included fashion showcases and live entertainment that celebrated local culture and talent.Street vendors also benefited from the large turnout.
Local vendor Mziwamadoda Ndlovu said the event helped him make money to support his family.“At least I’m going to put something on the table due to this event. I managed to sell sweets and chips for people who attended,” said Ndlovu.Community members praised the event for bringing people together while also creating opportunities for small businesses and local entertainers.
