The Pinetown Magistrate’s Court has granted bail to Fadiel Adams after finding that the state failed to convincingly prove he should remain in custody pending trial.Magistrate Gwendolyn Robinson ruled that although Adams displayed what she described as a “contemptuous attitude” toward the justice system, the court was satisfied he would return for trial.
Adams was released on R10,000 bail and the matter was postponed to August 14.The case has raised questions about the strength of the state’s investigation and whether political considerations are influencing the prosecution. Authorities allege Adams interfered in investigations linked to the murder of former ANC Youth League secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa after interviewing convicted killer Sibusiso Ncengwa and former police officer Bonginkosi Dlamini.
Despite claims that Adams evaded arrest and contacted witnesses, the court found that strict bail conditions could address those concerns while preserving his constitutional rights.
