
The eThekwini Municipality has officially launched its inaugural Sports Awards, calling on the public to nominate outstanding individuals and teams who have contributed to the growth of sport in the city.
Nominations are open until May 15 and are open to athletes, coaches, administrators, schools, clubs and community organisations within eThekwini. The initiative aims to recognise excellence, dedication and the positive impact of sport on communities.
City spokesperson Gugu Sisilana said the awards will celebrate those who have excelled across various sporting codes while also promoting social cohesion and youth development.
Award categories include Sportsperson of the Year, Coach of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Junior Sportsperson, and Sportsperson with a Disability, among others.“The awards form part of the Municipality’s commitment to building healthier communities and supporting local talent,” said Sisilana.
The date for the awards ceremony has not yet been announced.Nomination forms can be accessed on the eThekwini Municipality website or collected from Delta Towers on Dr Pixley ka Seme Street in Durban.
