A dramatic bail hearing unfolded in court as Sergeant Nkosi argued that he could only afford to pay R10 000 bail, citing his monthly salary of R16 500 as proof of his financial limitations.
Nkosi’s claim raised eyebrows after the court heard that he was allegedly found in possession of large sums of cash, including R380 000 discovered at his home, as well as an additional R50 000 reportedly found later.
Despite this, Nkosi maintained that his income could not support a higher bail amount.Through his legal representative, Nkosi denied all charges against him and insisted he posed no flight risk.
His lawyer urged the court to grant bail, arguing that the accused has strong ties to the community and no intention of evading trial. However, the prosecution firmly opposed the application, questioning the credibility of Nkosi’s financial claims in light of the cash allegedly recovered.
They argued that the unexplained money raises serious concerns and could indicate a risk of interference with investigations. The court has reserved judgment, with a ruling on Nkosi’s bail application expected soon.
