Rainbow improves school infrastructure across Hammarsdale

News

Rainbow successfully completed infrastructure upgrades and renovation projects at three schools within its operations in the Hammarsdale area: Khalawemuke Primary School, Phezulu High School and Sankontshe Primary School.

The project was undertaken to improve learning environments, enhance safety and support educational outcomes for learners in the local community. The initiative forms part of Rainbow’s ongoing commitment to building stronger communities through sustainable investments in education and social development.

The project delivered significant improvements across the three schools. At Phezulu High School, a collapsed classroom roof was completely restored and library facilities were upgraded. Sankontshe Primary School benefited from extensive library renovations, roof repairs and ablution upgrades, while Khalawemuke Primary School received significant improvements to its fencing, restoration of the administration block, library facilities, ablution facility upgrades, water infrastructure including gutter replacement to safeguard the building against water-related structural damage and access control measures.

There were also several additional improvements to address urgent maintenance needs across the schools. These included classroom painting, electrical and ceiling repairs, door replacements, flooring improvements, fence repairs and the replacement of damaged asbestos roof sheets with safer fibre cement roofing, all aimed at supporting the schools’ efforts to maintain safe, functional and suitable facilities for learners and educators.

Mooketsi Mabanga Ncube, KwaZulu-Natal Managing Director at Rainbow, said: “Schools play an important role in the development of our communities, and creating safe and suitable environments for learners is an investment in their future. Through these upgrades, we have been able to address some of the infrastructure challenges facing these schools while improving the day-to-day environment for learners and educators. We are pleased to have worked alongside the schools and other stakeholders to deliver improvements that can support learning and contribute to the wellbeing of the local community.”

Rainbow extends its gratitude to all stakeholders and partners, including the Do More Foundation, who contributed to the successful delivery of the project.

Through investments such as these, Rainbow continues to support stronger schools and a brighter future for the children of Hammarsdale, demonstrating the lasting value of investing in education.
