Nongoma Families Rebuild Their Lives After Receiving Fully Furnished Homes

Ten members of the Nongoma local municipality expressed their gratitude yesterday, after officially receiving newly constructed houses that were fully furnished and stocked with groceries from the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA).

The handover of houses happened because there were families that lost their houses last year due to severe weather and flooding incidents in Nongoma. The Member of the Executive Council (MEC), Thulasizwe Buthelezi, oversaw the handing over of the newly constructed houses.

Eddie Mthembu, one of the house owners says that he is very happy with Buthelezi’s work and asked God to bless Buthelezi.
“The MEC from COGTA heard our cry for help and showed compassion towards us by building me and 9 other families houses.

We are very happy with Shenge’s work, because he did not only build us houses, but he also ensured that the houses have furniture and groceries inside.

The house has two bedrooms, a dining room, a kitchen and a bathroom. May God bless Shenge,” said Mthembu.
Nokukhanya Luthuli says, “After the floods destroyed our homes, we had to seek shelter at our neighbours’ houses.

I would like to thank the MEC from COGTA and Nongoma’s municipality. I am expressing my gratitude because my dignity is back and I have a place I can call home.”
Lethiwe Dlamini, says that her dignity is restored but the houses however do not have running water and electricity yet.

“My dignity is restored and I’m very grateful to COGTA, we however do not have running water and electricity in our homes yet, but I am hopeful that the MEC will provide us with water and electricity as he promised in due time,” said Dlamini.

Buthelezi closed off the handing over of houses ceremony by thanking everyone in attendance and he also promised the people of Nongoma local municipality more employment opportunities in the future.
