Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli visited several voter registration stations across the King Cetshwayo District Municipality on Saturday to assess operational readiness during the final voter registration weekend ahead of the 4 November 2026 Local Government Elections.
During the visit, officials monitored registration processes and assisted residents with checking and updating their details on the Voters’ Roll. The Premier also interacted with election staff and members of the public at various voting stations.
A key focus of the visit was encouraging first-time voters, particularly young people, to make use of the registration weekend. The Premier stressed the importance of ensuring that eligible citizens are correctly registered so they can participate when voting takes place later this year.
However, Ntuli expressed concern over the low turnout recorded at several registration stations, noting that fewer people than expected had arrived to register or verify their voter information.
He appealed to eligible residents not to wait until the last minute and to take advantage of the remaining registration period.
The weekend of 1 and 2 August marks the final opportunity for eligible South Africans to register or update their voting details before the local government elections. Electoral officials have urged residents to visit their designated voting stations before registration closes on Sunday.
