LACO leader Mlungisi “Inkinga KaMancinza” has publicly made a series of unverified allegations involving President Cyril Ramaphosa, Phakel’umthakathi, and Ngizwe Mchunu, calling on those named to respond.
Speaking during a briefing streamed on his Facebook page, Mlungisi claimed that allegations had been brought to his attention suggesting that individuals involved were allegedly promised R3 million, with R1.5 million to be paid upfront and the remaining R1.5 million after a media briefing.
Throughout his address, Mlungisi stressed that these were allegations and not established facts.
He further alleged that he had made numerous attempts to speak with and meet Phakel’umthakathi following what he described as a meeting with President Cyril Ramaphosa before the press briefing held on 1 July 2026 after the main march.
According to Mlungisi, if it were ever confirmed that any payments had been received, those involved should have disclosed that information to the public before addressing the media. He argued that failing to do so would have raised serious questions about transparency.
At the time of publication, no evidence has been provided publicly to substantiate the allegations, and they have not been independently verified.
Responses from Phakel’umthakathi, Ngizwe Mchunu, and the Office of President Cyril Ramaphosa were not available at the time of writing. Their responses would be important to provide readers with all sides of the matter should they choose to comment.
