Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso says his contract extension reflects a shared vision between him and the club as he prepares for Saturday’s MTN8 final against Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Cardoso confirmed that the agreement was concluded during the off-season, following Sundowns’ CAF Champions League triumph. However, the club has not disclosed the contract’s duration or financial details.
The Portuguese coach said both parties share similar values regarding the development of football in South Africa and across the African continent.
“The technical staff is happy and comfortable at the club, and the club also showed happiness and satisfaction towards us,” Cardoso said.
The extension signals Sundowns’ intention to maintain continuity under Cardoso as the club pursues domestic and continental success.
Attention now shifts to Saturday’s high-stakes encounter, with Orlando Pirates aiming to secure a fifth consecutive MTN8 title, a feat no club has achieved before.
Cardoso acknowledged the importance of the final, particularly given the rivalry between the two South African football giants and the expectations of their supporters.
Although Sundowns have contested numerous finals against Pirates, Saturday’s match will be Cardoso’s first cup final against the Soweto side as Sundowns coach.
He said his team would prepare for the match as it would for any other fixture against Pirates, despite the pressure surrounding the occasion.
The final offers Cardoso an opportunity to strengthen his standing at Sundowns following his continental success.
