DURBAN – Eleven people have been killed and three others injured after gunmen stormed a house in the Ziko area of KwaMakhutha, south of Durban, on Tuesday night.

According to KwaZulu-Natal police, 14 people — 13 men and a woman reportedly believed to be pregnant — were inside the property when three men allegedly entered and opened fire.

Ten victims died at the scene, while another later succumbed to gunshot wounds. Three survivors were taken to hospital.

Police have launched a manhunt, but the motive remains unconfirmed. Preliminary investigations indicate that some of the victims were allegedly known to Crime Intelligence in connection with suspected illegal activities.

SAPS has not disclosed those alleged activities, citing the need to protect the investigation.
A possible feud between rival groupings is reportedly being considered as one line of inquiry.

The investigation now centres on several questions: Who were the attackers? Did they know their victims? Was the shooting planned? And what triggered the deadly attack?

Police are expected to examine forensic and ballistic evidence from the scene while investigators trace the movements of the suspects before and after the shooting.
The community is left searching for answers as families mourn the victims.
