KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, emphasizes that political maturity and tolerance are crucial for ensuring peaceful local government elections scheduled for 4 November 2026.

The Premier chaired a meeting of the Multi-Party Political Intervention Committee at the Archie Gumede Conference Centre in Mayville, located in eThekwini Metro, on Tuesday, 22 September 2026.

This Committee aims to foster a culture of political tolerance and to maintain stability and peaceful coexistence among leaders, members, and supporters of various political parties, particularly during the campaign period and the elections.

During the meeting, the Honourable Premier stressed the importance of political party leaders encouraging their members to demonstrate a high level of political maturity at all times.

“After over 30 years of democracy, we cannot permit any instances of political intolerance. Such behavior must be recognized and treated as criminal acts. Law enforcement will not accept any lawlessness.”

The Premier stated that the provincial government is dedicated to creating an environment that supports free and fair elections, free from violence and intimidation.

“This committee is here to promote fair competition and engagement as we approach the Local Government Elections in November. We urge all political parties to utilize this platform to engage constructively and resolve any issues that may arise during the campaign and election period,” added Premier Ntuli.
