All four men accused of the murder of former boxing champion Zolani Tete have now been identified following a series of arrests and court appearances.
Tete, 38, was shot dead in Mdantsane on 21 August 2026. His girlfriend, who was with him during the attack, was wounded and survived.
The accused are alleged hitmen Siphesihle Kolisa, 28, and Athandwa Gangala, 27, alleged middleman Sinebongo Qase, 28, and alleged mastermind Uzuzole Goqwana, 22.
Police arrested Goqwana on 22 August, describing the arrest as a major breakthrough in the investigation. Kolisa and Gangala were arrested the following day in Scenery Park, KuGompo City, where firearms and ammunition were allegedly recovered. Qase was arrested on Monday, becoming the fourth person charged in connection with the killing.
The State alleges that Tete’s murder was premeditated and says it will strongly oppose bail because of the seriousness of the charges.
Kolisa and Gangala have abandoned their bail applications. Goqwana and Qase are expected to return to the Mdantsane Magistrates’ Court on 1 September for formal bail proceedings.
The attempted murder charge relates to Tete’s injured girlfriend.
The National Prosecuting Authority has welcomed the swift progress made in bringing all four accused before court.
