DURBAN — For many Durban residents, Sunday and Monday will mean more than just a busy start to the week, as major road closures linked to the 46th SADC Ordinary Summit are expected to disrupt daily travel.
Motorists can expect delays on key routes being used by visiting dignitaries travelling to and from the Durban ICC, with some intersections subject to hard closures.
The disruptions could affect commuters, businesses and families trying to move around the city. Football supporters heading to Kings Park Stadium for the Betway Premiership clash between Chippa United and Orlando Pirates have also been urged to leave home early.
Police, Durban Metro Police and the Road Traffic Inspectorate are appealing to motorists to remain patient, follow alternative routes where possible and obey instructions from traffic officers.
For Durban, the summit brings international attention to the city — but for ordinary road users, the challenge is getting from one destination to another without being caught in the traffic maze.
