Former Chippa United and Baroka FC coach Dan Malesela has been appointed as the Head of Football Development at the newly revitalised Africa School of Excellence, marking a new chapter in his football career.
The appointment forms part of a broader leadership reshuffle announced by the Chippa Group, which now oversees the historic school. Former rugby administrator Tim Dlulane will head the school’s rugby programme, while Morio Sanyane has been named Group Head of Communications and Stakeholder Relations.In a statement, the Chippa Group said the appointments are aimed at strengthening its vision of developing young sporting talent while advancing education and community development.
The Africa School of Excellence came under the stewardship of Chipcor Developers, led by businessman and Chippa United chairman Siviwe “Chippa” Mpengesi, in November 2025. The takeover followed years of financial challenges and declining infrastructure at the institution, with Transnet having previously stepped in to safeguard the school.
Malesela, affectionately known as “Dance” in South African football circles, brings years of coaching experience from clubs including Chippa United and Baroka FC.
His new role will focus on nurturing young football talent and helping shape the school’s long-term football development programme.
The appointments are expected to play a significant role in the school’s revival as it seeks to become a leading centre for sport, education and youth development in South Africa.
