Bafana Bafana impressed many football fans by advancing from Group A, marking one of the country’s best performances at the tournament. They began their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over South Korea before earning a 1-1 draw against Czechia. Although they lost 2-0 to tournament hosts Mexico in their final group match, they still finished second in the group and qualified for the knockout stage.
South Africa’s World Cup dream ended in the Round of 32 after a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Canada. The winning goal came in the 92nd minute at SoFi Stadium, leaving players and supporters disappointed.
Despite the painful exit, fans praised the team for their determination, teamwork and fighting spirit throughout the tournament. The warm reception at the airport reflected the pride many South Africans feel in the squad’s achievements.
The team’s impressive World Cup run has inspired hope for the future and raised expectations for continued success in international football competitions.
