The South African Police Service (SAPS) has issued a stern warning amid growing marches and protests targeting undocumented migrants across parts of the country. Authorities stressed that no individual, community group, or organisation has the legal authority to order foreign nationals to leave South Africa.
The warning comes as tensions continue to rise in Durban and other areas where anti-immigrant demonstrations have intensified in recent days. Police say immigration matters are governed by the laws of the Republic and must be handled through official legal and immigration processes.
SAPS also urged members of the public to avoid spreading inflammatory statements and misinformation on social media, warning that such actions could worsen tensions and place lives at risk. Concerns over safety have been raised by both local residents and foreign nationals, with some migrants seeking refuge at temporary shelters following threats and protests. Police say they will continue monitoring the situation and maintaining public order.
