The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has officially unveiled Bishop Emmanuel Vusumuzi Dube as its mayoral candidate for the uMsunduzi Municipality. Popularly known as Bishop Vusi Dube, the veteran politician and Christian minister has served as a Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature for more than a decade under the ANC banner.
He is also the founder of the eThekwini Community Church and Community Churches International.Born in 1953 in Sobantu, Pietermaritzburg, Dube became involved in politics and trade union activism during his early years. He later joined the ANC and steadily rose within the party structures.
Dube entered the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature in 2010 and retained his seat during both the 2014 and 2019 general elections. Throughout his political career, he has been known as a strong ally and vocal supporter of former president Jacob Zuma, particularly during Zuma’s legal and political battles over the years.
Apart from politics and ministry work, Dube is also known in community circles as a passionate Comrades Marathon runner and outspoken public figure who often shares his political views in both political and religious spaces.
The ANC believes Dube’s experience in governance, community leadership and religious outreach will strengthen the party’s campaign in the strategically important uMsunduzi Municipality ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
