The organisers of officially launched this year’s campaign at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday, calling on men across the country to become active agents of change in society. Held at Prime Human Performance Institute, the media launch brought together community leaders, sponsors, media partners and stakeholders ahead of the main event scheduled for 5 July 2026 in Durban.
The annual initiative includes a 10km and 5km run/walk and aims to promote healthy lifestyles while raising awareness about women and children abuse.Speaking during the launch, SA Men Run representatives stressed that the event is “more than a race” and should be viewed as a movement encouraging positive masculinity and responsible fatherhood under the campaign theme, Indoda Ephilile Iyavikela.
Organisers thanked several partners supporting the initiative, including community organisations, sponsors and media partners. One of the speakers, popularly known as Big Mike, said society often labels men negatively because of destructive behaviour displayed by some individuals.
“That is the reality. People are calling men trash because of actions and behaviour. This initiative is about changing that narrative and encouraging men to become better leaders in society,” he said. Big Mike also acknowledged the continued support from Prime Human Performance Institute, Super FM and Fathers Matter, an organisation focusing on fatherhood and family support programmes.
Prime HPI manager Modli Linda said the initiative goes beyond fitness and sport. He said many social problems stem from absent fathers and unhealthy family structures.“We must look at this race as something that can shape society. It is about creating discussions around fatherhood, crime, responsibility and healthy living,” said Linda.
The organisers encouraged communities and media houses to support the campaign as preparations continue for race day in July.
