
Durban — More than 2 500 law enforcement officers swapped their uniforms for running shoes as they participated in the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner’s 12.5km race at Blue Lagoon Beachfront on Wednesday morning.
The annual event, held in partnership with Old Mutual, brought together members of the South African Police Service, South African National Defence Force, metro police and traffic officials, all in promoting fitness and wellness.Sergeant Nkululeko Mtshali from Ulundi Public Order Policing delivered a standout performance, setting a new men’s record with a time of 41:12.
He was followed by Constable Sibonelo Nzama, who finished second, while Sergeant Siyabonga Ndlela secured third place.In the women’s category, defending champion Constable Zinhle Shabalala from Ladysmith police station successfully retained her title, finishing in 52:16. Constable Sindi Khumalo claimed second place, with Constable Akhona Mazeka finishing third.
KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi welcomed the strong turnout, noting that the growing participation reflects a commitment to physical and mental fitness among officers.
He said the race plays a vital role in ensuring law enforcement officials remain fit, resilient and ready to serve their communities effectively.
