Midfielder Lebohang Maboe has moved swiftly to dismiss speculation that the Kaizer Chiefs dressing room has turned against co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef.
Speaking during a media briefing at Naturena on Thursday, Maboe strongly rejected claims that the coaching duo had lost the support of the squad following a difficult run of results.
Amakhosi are currently battling a slump in form and could suffer a fourth consecutive league defeat when they face Durban City FC at FNB Stadium on Sunday.
“There’s no such thing,” Maboe said emphatically when asked about rumours of unrest in the dressing room.
“These are our coaches, these are our leaders, and as players we share the same goal – to help the team get maximum points in every match.”
The 31-year-old midfielder, who joined Chiefs as a free agent after leaving Mamelodi Sundowns last August, admitted that the team’s recent results have been disappointing but insisted the squad remains united.
“It’s unfortunate that the past three weeks have damaged the work that we’ve been doing for the past three or four months,” Maboe said.
Defender Zitha Kwinika echoed Maboe’s sentiments, saying the situation had been exaggerated and that the players must take responsibility for the club’s struggles.
“We take accountability for whatever has happened,” Kwinika said. “We know we are all in this situation together, and it’s up to us to change it.”
Chiefs will be hoping to halt their slide and restore confidence when they host Durban City in a crucial league encounter this weekend.
