South Africa’s borders are getting a security upgrade this Easter as Border Management Authority (BMA) rolls out new vehicles to fight crime and illegal crossings.
Defence company DCD Protected Mobility has deployed armoured vehicles and special equipment to support operations at busy crossing points like the Beitbridge Port of Entry.
The vehicles include two Springbuck armoured carriers, built to handle rough terrain and keep officers safe during patrols. A SHERP all-terrain vehicle has also been added. It can move through water, mud and thick vegetation, making it useful along the Limpopo River.
Officials say the new equipment will help improve patrols, stop illegal activities and protect officers in dangerous areas. The border region often sees smuggling and undocumented crossings, especially during busy holiday periods.
The vehicles are also fitted to work with modern surveillance and communication systems, improving monitoring and response times.
Other companies are also helping by providing cameras, protective gear and advanced technology.
The BMA says this partnership shows how local companies can deliver strong security solutions. Authorities believe using both technology and skilled personnel will improve border control and keep the country safer during peak travel seasons.
