The Durban Shopping Fest has officially kicked off, attracting large crowds and giving a strong boost to the local economy. The festival, organised by the Al Ansaar Foundation, is already proving to be a success for small businesses and shoppers alike.
Running from early April until April 6, the event has brought increased foot traffic, with many business owners reporting a rise in sales. Stalls filled with clothing, accessories, food, and household goods have drawn eager customers looking for variety and good deals.
Festival organiser Amani Bux said the main aim of the event is to support small businesses and give them a platform to grow. She explained that the festival allows entrepreneurs to gain valuable experience while reaching new customers.
“The purpose of this festival is to give small businesses exposure and an opportunity to reach new customers and get an experience of what business is like,” said Bux.
Bux also highlighted that profits made during the festival go towards charitable causes, adding a meaningful impact to the event.
Business owner Shaquila Rashid shared positive feedback, saying the festival has helped her connect with new customers and showcase her products. “It’s been going really well so far,” she said.
Shoppers have also welcomed the festival. Mandla Biyela said he enjoys having many options in one place, especially with the discounts available. “The deals make it even better,” he said.
With several days still to go, organisers remain hopeful that the Durban Shopping Fest will continue to uplift local businesses while supporting charity.
