The reputation of rising singer Naledi Aphiwe has come under intense scrutiny after she allegedly lost a multi-million rand endorsement deal following controversial social media remarks.

Sources close to the negotiations say the singer had been on the verge of securing a lucrative partnership worth nearly R5 million with candy brand Stumbo. The deal reportedly included a national billboard campaign and brand appearances that would have significantly boosted her commercial profile.

However, the partnership is believed to have collapsed after old Facebook posts resurfaced in which Aphiwe mocked her ex-boyfriend Mawelele and made disparaging remarks about his new girlfriend. In one widely shared exchange, the singer allegedly compared the woman to fast-fashion retailer Shein, a comment many users interpreted as insulting and dismissive.

Industry insiders say the backlash raised concerns among brand executives about reputational risk and public perception, ultimately derailing the endorsement.

After days of silence, Aphiwe issued a dramatic statement suggesting that her career is being deliberately sabotaged.

“If you hear that I am dead, do not get shocked. I am so tired and fed up. I hope everyone who is trying to destroy my career will be happy,” she said.

While some supporters have rallied behind the singer, marketing analysts warn the controversy could damage her credibility with future sponsors.
