New York: Two pilots were killed after a passenger plane collided with a fire truck on a runway at LaGuardia Airport late Sunday night, officials said. The aircraft, arriving from Montreal, struck the emergency vehicle while landing, causing major damage to the front of the plane.
At least 13 people were injured in the incident, including two firefighters on the truck. Authorities said the injured were taken to nearby hospitals and are in stable condition. Passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft, with emergency teams quickly responding at the scene.
Videos shared on social media showed the damaged plane and ongoing rescue operations, though officials have not confirmed all footage. The airport temporarily halted all incoming and outgoing flights following the crash, leading to several diversions and delays.
Early reports suggest the fire truck had been cleared to enter the runway while responding to another emergency. Investigators are now working to determine how the collision occurred.
Aviation authorities have launched a full inquiry into the incident, which has raised concerns about runway safety and coordination during emergencies at busy airports.
