Storm Alert Batters KZN as Level 4 Warning Hits North

News

KwaZulu-Natal is bracing for a turbulent start to the week, with forecasters warning of severe thunderstorms across large parts of the province. The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 4 alert for northern areas, including Abaqulusi, Ulundi, Mandeni and Eshowe, effective Monday and Tuesday.

Residents can expect intense downpours, damaging winds, large hail and frequent lightning, raising concerns about flooding and infrastructure damage. Southern regions remain under a Yellow Level 2 warning, signalling disruptive but less severe conditions.

Forecaster Ayanda Nsele has urged caution, warning motorists to avoid flooded roads and low-lying bridges. Communities are also advised to steer clear of tall objects and refrain from outdoor activities that could increase lightning risk.

The alert follows a weekend of unstable weather, with widespread rainfall already soaking much of the province. Authorities say emergency services are on standby as conditions are expected to worsen in the coming days.
