Former Ukhozi FM presenter Lucky Nkosi has won admiration from the community after donating a cow for Easter service at the Uniting Reformed Church, held at Mowatt Park High School.

Nkosi, who was recently dismissed from the station after more than 15 years on air, initially tried to keep his act of generosity private. He said he did not believe his donation needed public attention, but spoke openly when approached by this newspaper.

“I looked back and counted what God has done for me and realised that my gratitude to Him is small,” Nkosi said. “I was also concerned about the cost of the Good Friday service, especially for elderly members who could not afford to attend.”

He expressed hope that, in future, church services would become more accessible. “I hope we get to a point where people can attend for little or no cost. As long as I live, I will continue giving. I don’t buy blessings, I am simply thankful for them,” he added.

Nkosi built a loyal following during his time at the SABC radio station, where he was known for promoting choral music and classic hits on weekend programmes. His dismissal, along with several others at the station, came as a shock to listeners.

Despite uncertainty about his future, Nkosi remains optimistic. When asked about rumours of a possible career change, including a return to education,he responded with humour.

“Who is this reliable source who knows my secrets?” he joked. “I will not confirm or deny anything for now, but soon you will be the first to know where I will earn my next salary.”

For now, his quiet generosity is speaking louder than words.
