ESHOWE, KZN — The sound of Maskandi is set to echo through Eshowe this October as music lovers from across KwaZulu-Natal gather for the town’s first-ever Eshowe Maskandi Music Festival.
The inaugural festival will take place at the Eshowe Sports Club on 10 October, promising a full day of music, culture and entertainment for Maskandi fans.
Organised by Amambatha Entertainment, the festival is expected to create more than just a platform for music. Organisers say the event is also aimed at supporting local communities by creating temporary employment opportunities, stimulating small businesses, supporting the transport sector and bringing major entertainment closer to people in rural areas.
At the heart of the festival is the celebration of Maskandi — a genre deeply connected to KwaZulu-Natal’s identity, stories and cultural expression.
Music lovers can expect performances from some of the genre’s biggest names, including Mfiliseni “Mqabulasheshe” Magubane, Thokozani Langa, Shwi Nomtekhala, Khuzani “Indlamlenze” Mpungose, Menzi, Mthandeni SK, Sminofu, Qhoshangokwenzakwakhe, Sanda Magubane and Gadla.
More artists are expected to be announced as excitement builds towards the festival.
Organisers are promising an authentic Maskandi experience where fans can come together, sing along to their favourite songs and celebrate the sound that continues to play a major role in KwaZulu-Natal’s cultural landscape.
For Eshowe, the festival also represents an opportunity to put the town in the spotlight and demonstrate how entertainment events can bring people, businesses and communities together.
Tickets are available through VTickets, Shoprite, USave, Checkers and Hyper stores.
General tickets cost R100, VIP tickets are R500, while cooler box entry is R150.
