Residents across KwaZulu-Natal are being urged to stay alert after a group allegedly using a friendly embrace to steal cellphones has been linked to a number of thefts.
According to video making rounds of social media, one suspect, reportedly wearing a blue-and-white T-shirt, approaches victims pretending to know them.
During the interaction, the suspect hugs the victim while allegedly pickpocketing their cellphone.
The phone is then quickly handed to an accomplice wearing a yellow cap, before the pair leave the area.
Victims are often left confused by the seemingly harmless encounter and only realise they have been robbed after the suspects are gone.
Anyone with information that could help identify the suspects is urged to contact RUSA on 086 1234 333.
