Strong winds sweeping across eThekwini on Saturday afternoon and evening caused major disruption on Currie Road, where five trees were reported to have fallen.
Municipal teams from the Recreation and Parks Directorate, working alongside Emergency Services and the Durban Metro Police, were deployed to clear the trees and debris and manage traffic along affected routes.

By 6.20pm, at least 23 fallen trees had been reported across the city, with Currie Road among the hardest-hit areas. Motorists were urged to avoid affected routes where possible, slow down and follow instructions from officers on the scene.
No injuries had been reported at the time of the municipality’s update, while assessments of the full extent of the storm damage continued.
Residents are also being warned to stay away from fallen electricity cables and damaged structures.
