The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) has strengthened efforts to grow tourism and create opportunities for local communities through a Provincial Municipal Tourism Information Sharing Session held in Ramsgate.
The session, hosted on 20 August 2026 at Bellevue Guest Lodge under the Ugu District Municipality, brought together government departments, municipalities, public entities and development agencies to improve cooperation and share ideas for advancing tourism across the province.
Discussions focused on tourism governance, funding opportunities, sustainable tourism, destination marketing and municipal tourism projects. Participants also shared successes, challenges and lessons that could help communities benefit more directly from the tourism economy.

For local communities, stronger tourism development can mean increased opportunities for small businesses, accommodation providers, tour guides, restaurants, informal traders and young people seeking employment.
The session was hosted in partnership with the South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise (SCTIE), while also showcasing the South Coast and KwaZulu-Natal’s diverse tourism offerings.
