President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Thursday, 29 October 2026, officiate the launch of the Cornubia Integrated Human Settlements Project in eThekwini, KwaZulu-Natal.
The launch highlights government’s commitment to providing dignified housing and developing integrated human settlements that bring people closer to economic opportunities and essential services, in line with priorities outlined in the President’s 2026 State of the Nation Address.
The Cornubia project is expected to deliver a total of 12, 593 housing units across various housing programmes, including fully subsidized Breaking New Ground (BNG) housing, First Home Finance for the missing middle and social housing.
Since its launch more than a decade ago, Cornubia has delivered close to 3000 fully subsidized housing units, alongside supporting social infrastructure and amenities, including a school, retail outlets and recreational facilities. The development also contributes to addressing the spatial inequalities created by apartheid era planning.
Cornubia has recently welcomed the first group of 2022 flood survivors into their permanent homes, while construction of additional 146 housing units is expected to be completed by December 2026.
President Ramaphosa will also visit Montclaire Lodge, the first government-owned Temporary Emergency Accommodation (TEA).
The president will be joined by amongst others, Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane, KwaZulu Natal Premier, Thami Ntuli, MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma and EthekwiniMayor, Cllr Cyril Xaba.
