KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli joined the Consulate General of India in Durban for a Flag Hoisting Ceremony held at India House in Morningside, Durban, on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The ceremony marked India’s 80th anniversary of independence from British colonial rule and brought together members of the Indian diplomatic community, government representatives, community leaders and invited guests.
Premier Ntuli was invited to attend the event as India and South Africa continue to strengthen diplomatic, economic and cultural relations.The celebration featured the ceremonial hoisting of the Indian national flag, speeches and reflections on India’s journey since gaining independence.
The event also provided an opportunity to highlight the longstanding ties between the Indian and South African people, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal, where the Indian community has played an important role in the province’s social, economic and cultural development.
Premier Ntuli’s participation comes as KwaZulu-Natal continues to position itself as a key player in strengthening international partnerships, trade and regional cooperation.
The ceremony at India House formed part of nationwide celebrations marking India’s Independence Day, observed annually on August 15.
